Registering your child for a primary school in Singapore is an important milestone for both parents and children. Initially, primary school registration can seem overwhelming, but navigating with the right information and guidance becomes much easier.

This guide aims to provide parents with a step-by-step overview of Singapore’s primary school registration process, along with important considerations and required supporting documents.

Understanding Primary School Registration

Primary school registration in Singapore is conducted through the Primary 1 (P1) Registration System. The system allows parents of Singapore Citizen (SC) and Permanent Resident (PR) children to register for primary school. It is important to note that the registration process for international students differs from the process outlined in this guide.

Accessing the P1 Registration Portal

Parents need to access the P1 Registration Portal to begin the registration process. This can be done using a valid Singpass with 2-Factor Authentication (Singpass2FA). If you do not have a Singpass 2FA, you must register for one before proceeding. The portal provides important information, such as your child’s eligible registration phases and available schools.

Important Considerations Before Registering

Before registering your child for primary school, there are a few important considerations to keep in mind:

P1 registration is not first come, first served – Unlike some registration systems; there is no priority given to early registrants. Understanding the eligibility criteria for each registration phase is essential to ensure a smooth process. Caregiver’s address declaration – If you plan to use a caregiver’s address for registration purposes, you must submit an online declaration of alternative child-care arrangement and receive approval before registering your child for P1. This application typically takes at least three working days to be processed. Register for only one school in any phase – Multiple registrations are not accepted. If you submit multiple registrations in the same phase, the Ministry of Education (MOE) will consider your latest submission. Making amendments in the same phase – If you need to change your registration within the same phase, the parent who registered the child must remove the previous registration and submit a new one before the phase closes. MOE will consider your latest submission. Step-by-Step Registration Process

The registration process can be completed using the P1 Registration Portal and follows these general steps:

Log in to the P1 Registration Portal – Use your Singpass 2FA credentials to log in to the portal during your child’s eligible phase registration period. Declare consent from the other parent –  In the Registration Portal, you must declare that you have sought consent from the other parent to register your child for P1. Complete the online form – If your child’s name or eligible phase/school is not shown in the portal, you will be directed to complete an online form for registration. Ensure that you provide accurate and complete information. Submit supporting documents – During the registration process, you may be required to submit supporting documents. These documents typically include your child’s full name, birth certificate number, date of birth, and the address used for registration. Be prepared to provide additional information or documents about your child’s registration. Required Supporting Documents

While the specific documents required may vary, you should generally be prepared to provide the following supporting documents during the registration process:

Child’s full name: Provide the child’s full name as stated in their birth certificate. Child’s birth certificate number: Input the birth certificate number accurately. Child’s date of birth: Enter the child’s date of birth as per the birth certificate. Address used for registration: Include the address you use for the registration process.

Remember that schools may contact you for clarification or additional documents if necessary. If you need assistance with the registration process, refer to the provided user guide or contact the school of your choice for support.

Registering your child for a primary school in Singapore is a significant step in their educational journey. Understanding the primary school registration process and preparing the necessary documents can ensure a smoother and more successful registration experience.

The P1 Registration Portal provides a user-friendly platform for parents to register their children during their eligible phases. Remember to follow the guidelines, consider important considerations, and accurately submit the required supporting documents. Good luck with your child’s primary school registration!
